The Starry Sky Lovers

Stargazing Party at Komaba ~Astronomical Observatory Tour~

\ Vote for this project /

How often do you gaze the stars on the night sky ? You might not have many opportunities to do so in metropolitan or urban areas. When astronomers conduct their observations for research, they also avoid the city lights, which is why astronomical observatories are usually located far from cities. However, there actually is an astronomical observatory right here in Komaba campus, even though it is close to Shibuya and Shinjuku. We welcome you to the observatory and take a tour of the dome. You can observe the stars in the daytime through telescopes inside the dome . On top of that, you can even get a chance to control the dome or telescopes by yourself! This observatory was installed on the building No.16 several decades ago. In the past, it was used for scientific research. However, it remained mostly unused for a long time. In 2021, a graduated student studying cosmology began efforts to bring it back into use. While this facility had lost several functions for normal observations, he has been working on improving and upgrading the facility. We are excited to share the experience of exploring the universe with you at this observatory. That also serves a great example of how this dome can be used for general public.
